Laidley floodway upgrade to strengthen local flood resilience

Work is getting underway on a major upgrade to the Drayton Street Floodway in Laidley, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council delivering improvements to strengthen the road's resilience during future flood events.

The 11-week project will see the existing floodway completely renewed, helping improve drainage, reduce flood-related damage and provide safer, more reliable access for local motorists.

What's being upgraded?

The works will include:
  • Construction of a new culvert base slab and aprons.
  • Installation of reinforced concrete box culverts and an upgraded floodway.
  • New rock protection to help prevent erosion.
  • Road pavement reconstruction and resurfacing.
  • Replacement of guideposts and associated road infrastructure.

Once complete, the improvements will help strengthen this important local road connection, particularly during and following heavy rainfall.

Building a more flood-resilient Lockyer Valley

Flood resilience remains a significant priority for communities across the Lockyer Valley.

The broader need for flood mitigation investment in Laidley and Withcott has also been highlighted through RDA Ipswich & West Moreton's What Our Community Needs regional priorities, advocating for infrastructure that better protects communities and supports long-term resilience.

While the Drayton Street Floodway upgrade is a separate Council-led project, it represents another positive step towards improving local infrastructure and preparing communities for future weather events.

Drayton Street will be closed at the project site during construction, with a designated detour in place. Weather permitting, works are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
