Somerset Priority Projects Move from Advocacy to Action

Two major streetscape projects in Somerset are progressing, with $1.66 million in funding supporting improvements to the Lowood and Kilcoy town centres.

The Kilcoy Streetscape Revitalisation and Lowood Futures Strategy are being delivered with funding through the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund under the SEQ City Deal, supporting more welcoming, connected and functional community spaces.

For Regional Development Australia Ipswich & West Moreton (RDAIWM), progress on the Lowood Futures Strategy is particularly significant, with the project identified as a regional priority through RDAIWM’s What Our Community Needs advocacy.

These regional priorities are taken directly to Federal and State decision-makers as part of RDAIWM’s ongoing advocacy for infrastructure and investment across Ipswich and West Moreton.

Early works have already delivered tangible outcomes in both communities.

In Kilcoy, the new Aston Park Precinct includes additional car, RV and long-vehicle parking, revitalised public spaces, seating, bike racks, wayfinding and interpretive signage.

In Lowood, the Station Street Carpark has delivered 36 new parking spaces, including accessible parking, along with improved pedestrian connectivity to Railway Street.

The Aston Park Precinct was officially opened this week, marking another milestone in the revitalisation of Somerset’s town centres.

The projects demonstrate the value of collaboration between Somerset Regional Council, the Australian and Queensland Governments and regional partners to turn identified community priorities into investment and progress on the ground.
