Strengthening Connections and Empowering First Nations Businesses

Yesterday, Rees and Bri attended the First Nations Business Expo in Toowoomba, where they heard from inspiring First Nations business owners and entrepreneurs who are driving change in their communities.

The event featured a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring the challenges of starting and sustaining a business, as well as ways to strengthen communication and collaboration between all levels of government and First Nations enterprises.

Speakers also shared insights on empowering the Black community and building a stronger Black economy — highlighting the importance of raising awareness of business opportunities and fostering genuine support within local business ecosystems.

The Expo also showcased an incredible range of First Nations businesses. Madji Indigenous Furniture captured plenty of attention with their stunning couches and seats covered in vibrant Indigenous artwork — it seemed everyone wanted to take one home! Native Oz Bushfoods impressed with the launch of their new soft drink line, featuring unique native bushfood flavours that had Rees and Bri keen to stock up (along with more of their delicious salts). And Nhuralama displayed a beautiful collection of First Nations art, cultural goods, and bush-based products, offering a true reflection of connection to Country and culture.

The First Nations Business Expo provided valuable opportunities to listen, learn, and continue the conversation about how we can all play a part in supporting the growth and success of First Nations businesses across our region.
