Buy Smart Competition 2026 Open for Queensland Students

Queensland students have the opportunity to build their financial skills and learn about consumer rights through the 2026 Buy Smart Competition, with more than $15,000 in prizes available for students and their schools.

Run by the Office of Fair Trading, the annual competition encourages students in Years 4 to 12 to explore real-world consumer topics such as budgeting, online shopping, advertising and scam awareness. Students can submit entries individually or in groups of up to four.

The program aims to help young people become informed consumers by developing practical money skills and an understanding of their rights when making purchases. Teachers are also supported with curriculum-aligned resources to help deliver consumer literacy lessons in the classroom.

The competition is open to all Queensland state and private schools, with entries closing on 18 September 2026.
