Schools Plus Teaching Awards
Overview
Each year, the Schools Plus Teaching Awards shine a light on exceptional teachers whose commitment, creativity and leadership are transforming learning outcomes for young people in Australia’s most disadvantaged communities. These awards recognise educators who go beyond the curriculum to remove barriers to learning, strengthen student wellbeing and create environments where every child can thrive.
The impact of exceptional teachers reaches far beyond the classroom. In communities facing disadvantage, teachers are often the most consistent source of stability, belief and opportunity in a young person’s life.
By acknowledging their work, the Schools Plus Teaching Awards highlight the critical role educators play in breaking cycles of disadvantage through education.
The awards also elevate powerful stories of what is possible when talent, determination and deep care for students intersect.
They provide a national platform to share innovative practice, inspire peers across the profession and build public understanding of the challenges and possibilities within disadvantaged school communities.
The Teaching Fellowship Professional Learning Award is valued at $20,000 and includes:
- Attendance at the Teaching Award Ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra
- $10,000 for the awardee’s school to plan and undertake a high impact school visit program. This will provide in-situ experiential learning at one or more schools/sites and contribute to advancing school improvement and student learning outcomes
- Participation in a 12-month Teaching Fellowship program including a 1.5-day face-to-face collaboration workshop, master classes and networking opportunities. Participants will expand their professional knowledge and leadership capabilities, enhance professional networks and develop a School Visit plan
- Invitation to join the Schools Plus Teaching Award Alumni, a network of over 120 teachers and school leaders from across Australia.
