Lockyer Valley Innovation Hub Secures $21.8M Funding Boost

The Lockyer Valley is set to become a key player in Queensland’s innovation economy, with the University of Queensland awarded $21.8 million to establish the Queensland Animal Science Innovation Hub at its Gatton campus.

The funding is part of the South East Queensland Innovation Economy Fund, a joint initiative of the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments, which has committed a total of $94 million across eight major projects. Industry partners are contributing an additional $122 million, unlocking $217 million in innovation-focused investment across the region.

The new Innovation Hub at UQ’s Queensland Animal Science Precinct will provide a space for producers, farmers and industry to trial, scale and commercialise cutting-edge farming and biosecurity technologies. The goal is to enhance food security and strengthen the supply of affordable, reliable animal products locally and globally.

This major investment marks a significant step forward in positioning the Lockyer Valley — and South East Queensland — as a leader in agri-tech, biosecurity, and health innovation.
